The 2023 Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration is delivered by the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of Australia.

The Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration honours influential Aboriginal leader Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue AC CBE DSG and highlight vital issues for Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This is the first time a sitting Prime Minister has delivered the oration.

The oration gives voice to issues of equity and equality for Australia’s First Peoples at a time when that is more important and pertinent than ever as Australians prepare vote in a referendum on an Indigenous voice to Parliament.

The Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration is presented by the Don Dunstan Foundation partnership with Reconciliation South Australia, The Lowitja Institute, the Lowitja O’Donoghue Foundation, Flinders University and The University of Adelaide.

The story of its landmark first 40 years is told in documentary Life in the Past Lane: 40 Years of the Bay to Birdwood, plus profiles on six longtime entrants and their prized vehicles, and a short documentary on the history and future of the coveted Bay to Birdwood trophies as new trophies by renowned Adelaide workshop JamFactory are unveiled.
