It’s pitted as one of Australia’s worst outback roads, the infamous Mereenie Loop, AKA CARAVAN KILLER! This week Katie takes up the challenge and tows the van along the entire 160km of dirt, corrugations and washouts… what could possibly go wrong? After a long day driving, we make it to the spectacular Finke Gorge National Park however a number of other bogged campers stop us from making the last river crossing to the campground before dark.
This creates a huge drama of trying to turn a 21ft caravan around on a thin bush track, find a safe place to set up camp for the night and regroup. But, as life always goes, sometimes the worst situation turns out to be the best and we enjoy an incredible night by the campfire, under millions of stars, in the best campsite we have ever stayed!
You won’t believe how incredibly beautiful this place is! Then it’s off to explore the gems of West MacDonnell Ranges as we make our way towards Alice Springs…. our first stop, Ormiston Gorge.
