Ricki Spencer speaks with Media Producer Jessica Leonard, who together introduce the short film ‘Ricki’s Place’, a story of Ricki’s struggle with housing insecurity, and finding connection with other gender-diverse people.
Sometimes people don’t understand, they think housing is something that – it’s there – it’s available – it’s just about applying – but for some people it’s much more than that – the biases that can occur – if you don’t look a certain way – you don’t sound a certain way – if you’re older – if you belong to a different community – can impact how you access it, and when you are someone who is older, who is trans, who is indigenous, you throw all that into the mix, can make it very difficult to find somewhere to call home.
